Born from the artist's survival history and emerging from a journey of hardship through years of self-reflection and optimistic grounding, his works of merging crystals and shells transform struggle and survival into a balanced, harmonious grace and grounded beauty — crystallising survival into colourful formations of resilience, patience, endurance, and becoming. Each work is a celebration of evolution, a reminder that pressure, fracture, and time can give rise to something unexpectedly beautiful. Because everything needs to 'spark joy' in YOKOSHIMA's creative universe, nothing remains discarded or broken. Through curiosity, patience, imagination, and intuitive transformation, everything can acquire a new significance — becoming something even more beautiful and meaningful than what they were before.

These Crystal Crowns are improvisationally handcrafted formations designed from crystals, stones, shells, and fragments gathered from nature. They begin with the pieces, and he helps them become by feeling out where each piece wants to belong, patiently searching for its place within the formation. The artist also breaks and reshapes the pieces himself so they can fit into particular corners,

making each work session a slow process of a special becoming — that's the point of crystalising. Through patience, grounding, intuition, and self-reflection, something fragmented gradually becomes whole — that's aslo the beauty of becoming; not forcing ourselves into what we're supposed to be, but discovering where each piece belongs and allowing ourselves to transform slowly. 

 

Every Crystal Crown is imperfect, colourful, chaotic, textured, and alive — a physical reminder that even fragments can become something unexpectedly beautiful. The resulting clusters resemble 'becoming whole' more than just looking like luxurious garnishes from another dimension — chaotic yet composed, fragmented yet whole. Reflective fragments become physical shards of emotions, gradually assembled into unified formations that embody the beauty of becoming: imperfect, colourful, textured, overwhelming, yet alive, glowing just the way they are.
