tsunami jakulaith wolff yokoshima artist art artwork

I made this painting, Tsunami, throughout 3 years of struggling in an out of homelessness all the while trying to heal from fresh and sever trauma at the same time, all alone with neither friend nor kin by my side. I created it first by layering all shades of colours paint month to month and year by year… until one day I had a su!cidal mental break down and stabbed the dry paint with the one and only frail paint knife I had and it created these mad, wild waves and something clicked in me and I felt perfect; so I painted the result in blue and white to create my raging wrathful beautiful tsunami! :) It’s small and compact but thick and very heavy like the pain I’ve been carrying around, but I’ve been depressed eversince I got rejected an art grant as they dissmissed it and me to the side to choose a cliche chair over it… I even submitted my other abstract paintings of a similar niche but apparently my whole story was not good enough, I’m even a self-taught artist and when I made it back then I was a legitimate starving-artist by its very definition… and although surviving homelessness makes only %5 of my story and yet I am still somehow sane and optimistic, kind and happy and loving 🤔 anyway! If you’re also a struggling, depressed life artist, you’re not alone! ❤️‍🩹 hang in there! You can see some yellowish underpaint peeking through the waves, this resembles hope for me in my paintings :) !
